Learning Disabilities

There are around 1.5 million people with a learning disability in the UK. Everyone over the age of 14 who is on their doctor’s learning disability register is eligible for an annual health check.

It is important to attend the annual health check if you are invited. During the health check the clinician will check your height, weight, blood pressure and heart rate and take a urine and blood sample. The clinician will be able to spot any health problems and offer you advice and support regarding your treatments and the medication you use. You will also have the opportunity to speak to the clinician about any of your concerns or queries you may have.

If you have any concerns about seeing a nurse, or there is anything they can do to make your appointment better, let the nurse know. They can make changes to help you. These are called reasonable adjustments.
