We are offering blood tests at the practice (or at a nearby practice) - please phone us to book your appointment. Certain tests still have to be done in the hospital (such as glucose tolerance tests, warfarin monitoring, and blood tests for young children)
The practice operates within the local guidelines with women of 25-49 years being called every 3 years and women of 50-64 years being called every 5 years. Patients with abnormal smears will be recalled more frequently in accordance with special instructions from the Cytology Department at Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Foundation Hospital Trust.
Women wishing to opt out of the cervical smear screening programme may do so by signing a disclaimer available from the IT department at the surgery. Disclaimers are valid for a period of 5 years at which time you will be contacted either to sign another disclaimer or to opt back in. Patients may opt back in to the screening programme at any time simply by making an appointment with the practice nurse.
Our annual Flu Clinics, which are offered to patients in the ‘At Risk Groups,’ is usually held during the first or second week of October. We advertise the date well in advance in the form of posters, flyers and on prescription requests but do not notify individuals personally. It is therefore your responsibility to keep a note in your diary to contact the surgery in September to establish what day/days the Flu Clinic will be occurring.
The latest guidance suggests that the use of liquid nitrogen is less effective in the treatment of warts and verrucas than other methods. As such, we are phasing out our "wart clinics" as of 13.9.2017. The GPs and Nurse Practitioners will be happy to advise on the most effective treatments, and have also produced an information leaflet with more information. The surgery offers a comprehensive travel service including a full range of vaccinations. The wide diversity of destinations and the increased popularity of adventure holidays increase the risk to your health, which in turn makes the service we provide increasingly complex.
Fill in a Travel Risk Assessment form and hand it in as soon as you have booked your holiday. (We usually require 8-10 weeks notice to be able to process your form and arrange an appointment in good time for a course of vaccinations)The nurse will review the form and advise you which vaccinations are recommended.
We also advise on Malaria prophylaxis. Remember, you may need a course of vaccinations to get the best protection, so please allow plenty of time. We may not be able to accommodate last minute requests, and you may have to go to a private provider. Not all vaccinations are available on the NHS. We can advise you of the cost of theses vaccinations – payment is by cash or cheque at the time of vaccination.
